Sad to report the passing away of Dave Rees a week ago, following his battle with cancer and the complications because of this. Dave was a long-term supporter of Sandbach RUFC from the mid 80’s when he first came down with his two sons, who were in the Mini Junior section of the club. Though his eldest son, never quite took to rugby in the same way as his youngest Will, he was always there to support and advise. Will of course being a key member of the successful 2001/2 Senior Colts team, that won the Cheshire Cup and formed the backbone of the fruitful period that followed as the side graduated into the main club teams. Will going on to Captain the 2’s for two or three seasons in the late 20’s and still occasionally laces up his boots for our social 4th XV. Dave naturally continuing to support him and the club as a result.

Dave notably was in the grocery business, being the Chief Buyer for the Coop, before setting up a grocer’s business in Penda Way in the town. Dave was on the club tour to New Zealand in 2005, where he famously seemed too often to fall foul of Judge Peter Wright in the Court sessions but took his punishments in good heart. He will be missed by his compatriots in the corner bar and by those that had the pleasure to know him.
